Hedgehog's Dilemma

the parable of the hedgehog's dilemma just resurfaced in my head.
quoting from Wikipedia :
"The hedgehog's dilemma states that the closer two beings come to each other, the more likely they are to hurt one another; however if they remain apart, they will each feel the pain of loneliness. This comes from the (false) idea that hedgehogs, with sharp spines on their backs, will hurt each other if they get too close. This is analogous to a relationship between two human beings. If two people come to care about and trust each other, something bad that happens to one of them will hurt the other as well, and dishonesty between the two could cause even greater problems."

it's been years since i read philosophical masterpieces such as Nietzsche or  Schopenhauer's work, in fact,  it had probably been more than 10 years..  I don't even remember what I've read about but this concept of human being's 'pointy' side toward relationship had long embedded into my psyche. I've tried hard to avoid it but I guess there's no escape from the reality.

another moody night brought to you by opening boxes of mementos from the past while packing for a move

So the moving company wanted to know what furniture i have so they can give me a quote,

Dear Seiko 5M43-0A29

Dear Seiko 5M43-0A29

Thank you for 7 years of faithful service and accompanying me to 4 continents and career changes.
We first met in Seattle in 2000, where you arrived via UPS from an online retailer, we had been inseparable ever since.
I still remember buying and sending a cashier check for your travel expenses in the Seattle First Bank (now Bank of America) Broadway branch in Seattle's Capital Hill area. Your arrival was much anticipated and I was entirely thrilled when you finally arrived.

Although I was probably not the best watch owner in the world, and may have subjected you to some beating and misfitted wristbands, I've treasured every day of your timely service, never missed a beat till a few days ago.

RIP, dear seiko 5M43-0A29, i'll always remember you.

The part 2 of Sam&Max by telltale games will be out tomorrow ...

The Sushi Police

I've had enough of the so called 'sushi' and 'japanese restaurants in US and most parts of the world.
This particular sushi restaurant in northern rockville,MD that I just had lunch at, served sushi with rice so badly prepared that even the local pigeons may have second thoughts before pecking at them, fish slices so thin and tasteless that I can hardly tell salmon from tuna.

Sadly,restaurants like this are everywhere.
Most of these places serve sushi-like food creations that are mediocre at best, and are often complete butchery of the food they intended to be.
It is an absolute mockery of the food and the culture.Just because it's a piece of raw fish on top of a wad of rice, doesn't make it sushi, and neither does serving fake wasabi with anything constitute japanese food.

can't wait for the sushi police to spring into action ;)

And perhaps one day I can find some semi-decent japanese food without having to go all the way to DC.

Scary Mary

Happy Holidays everyone !
I believe this video is appropriate for this time of the year.
The pack of CD kiquevehi  left in my car seems to have a few interesting songs... here's one of them
Apocalyptica Wie Weit with Marta Jandová.
The group is slightly interesting to me because they are famous for their cellos ... someone on the net said they bridged the gap between D. Shostakovich and heavy rock.
Well, I'm musical purist, so I don't quite agree with that but I must say the piece was interesting.
